Ladies Day at The Dome and Grand Draw! – Saturday 12th October 2024

Continuing our 10th Anniversary Celebrations, we held our Ladies Day at the Dome again in October, and it was certainly a ‘Wrap up Warm’ kind of day for the raffle draw which was quite late in the season! But it was another fun-filled event, with lots of military displays, re-enactors, vintage stalls and eats to keep all the family entertained. Phil Clark brought along his magnificently painted truck to display, depicting Women of WW2, which received huge amount of compliments from our visitors.

 It was FREE to enter the event, FREE parking and there was FREE ENTRY to The Dome Museum for all ladies, as we celebrated the magnificent and often-forgotten part that women played during WW2.

Wells Town Crier, Peter Bix, opened the event and then held a competition for the best Junior Langham Dome Crier, but with only one entrant it was a forgone conclusion as to who the winner would be! Winston Churchill, aka Barry Noble, held a 1940 quiz, which had lots of visitors scratching their heads for the answers!

A local choir, Twin Tracks, performed some specially rehearsed 1940’s songs for us, but then were stopped during their last number by torrential rain. It was a disappointingly sad and soggy end to a brilliant day, but happily, all convened to the museum to finish off their visit.

The Wells Town Crier drew the winning tickets for us, with the main £500 raffle prize being won by a lady from the next-door village – Field Dalling. I am sorry if you bought tickets and didn’t win but better luck next year!

The winners of the raffle were;

1st  prize- £500- S. Vian, 2nd prize-£250-A. Ilsley, 3rd prize-£100-M. Coombes, 4th & 5th prizes-£50-A. Scott and K. Stokes.
