Langham Dome Official Opening
July 2014
After closing its doors more than half a century ago, the Langham Training Dome is set to open in a new form today – as a fun and engaging visitor’s centre.
The new attraction will tell the story of the important contribution made by RAF Langham to the defence of the country in WW2 and bring to life the stories of the brave men and women from all over the globe who were based there. These individuals were at the forefront of both attack and defence during the war, some of whom made the ultimate sacrifice. Patrick Allen, Chairman of the Friends of Langham Dome (FoLD), says ‘The dome will be a fitting memorial to those who served in it.’
Visitors will be able to learn all about history of RAF Langham and the various international squadrons based at the airfield, and will even be able to follow in their footsteps by testing their aim with an interactive training gun and one of the Dome’s original training films.
Langham Dome is owned by the North Norfolk Historic Buildings Trust, and will be managed on their behalf by Friends of Langham Dome. In 2013, NNHBT & FoLD won major funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, as well as English Heritage and other contributors, to restore and transform the Dome, with the interior displays being designed by Norwich-based design and interpretation company, Ugly Studios.
